APFCs are designed to improve the power factor automatically whenever the power factor falls below a certain level. PF Relay means Automatic Power Factor Controller. Give system current and voltage to APFC. PF relay will do the rest. APFC will calculate the system power factor and turn on or turn off the capacitor bank according to requirements. Understanding the difference between Leading, Lagging. and Unity Power Factor is essential for electrical engineers, technicians, and students working with AC systems.
• Leading PF: Current leads voltage (capacitive loads)
• Unity PF:- Current and voltage are in phase, ensuring maximum power utilization
• Lagging PF: Current lags voltage (inductive loads),
common in motors and transformers

The Simple Formula:-
Power Factor (PF) = Real Power (kW) / Apparent Power (kVA)
It is a value between 0 and 1 (or 0% and 100%).
The Three Types of Power:-
1- Real Power (kW): The actual electricity that does useful work, like lighting a bulb or turning a motor.
2-Reactive Power (kVAR): Extra power needed by equipment like motors and transformers to create magnetic fields, but it does no actual work.
3-Apparent Power (kVA): The total power pulled from the electrical grid, which is the combination of real power and reactive power.
